Russell Thompkins, Jr. & The New Stylistics are bringing back falsetto! After a storied more than 40-year career, this Soul group is still committed to performing their hit R&B ballads, including “You Are Everything” and the Grammy nominated “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”
Russell Thompkins, Jr. and The New Stylistics
When the Stylistics formed back in 1968, their sound became instantly recognizable thanks to the talent and soaring falsetto of the one and only Russell Thompkins, Jr. During his over 40-year tenure as lead singer of the Stylistics, the group received international acclaim, earning eight Platinum Albums, one Double Platinum Album, four Platinum Singles, and many other awards. Their National Top 10 hits include “You Are Everything,” “Break Up To Make Up,” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” which received a Grammy nomination in 1974.
Throughout his career, Russell has worked with musical greats such as Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Burt Bacharach, Carol Bayer Sager, Van McCoy, Teddy Randazzo, Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, Dexter Wansel, Cynthia Biggs, Preston Glass, Maurice Starr, and Jeff Tyzik.
In May 2004, the Stylistics were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and in the fall of the same year, North Myrtle Beach, SC awarded Russell the Key to the City. Then, in June of 2005, the Stylistics were inducted into the South Carolina Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.
After long-standing success with the Stylistics, Thompson left the group in 2000 and released his first solo album, “A Matter of Style,” two years later, which includes covers of George and Ira Gershwin’s “Embraceable You” and the Thom Bell and Linda Creed song “Jealousy.”
In 2004, Russell brought together Raymond Johnson, James Ranton, and Jonathan Buckson to form Russell Thompson, Jr. & The New Stylistics, who are committed to delivering both the very highest quality vocal performance and level of professionalism. The group devotes it’s time to, as Russell puts it, presenting “these songs that have meant so much to people for so many years as close as possible to the original records!”
