The Ladies of Laughter Funny & Fabulous Tour includes winners and the best talent from the Ladies of Laughter annual national competition.
What started out as an annual videotape comedy competition in New York to honor comedian Mary Jo Wobker, who helped so many other female comedians break into the stand-up world, has grown in comedy clubs and venues around the tri-state area, including Atlantic City casinos, Caesars, Madison Square Garden, and now SOPAC!
Now known as “The Careerbuilder for Women in Comedy,” previous competition participants have included Amy Schumer, Tammy Pescatelli, and Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch, among many others. In 2018, Carol Burnett accepted the first ever “Ladies of Laughter Spirit Award” established to honor those women who have inspired others to enter the competitive field of comedy.
This July, 2021 Ladies of Laughter Professional winner, and SOPAC Community Brain Trust member, Liz Glazer will host a night of hilarity and laughter on the SOPAC Mainstage featuring Ladies of Laughter Grand Finale finalist, Maureen Langan, 2012 Ladies of Laughter winner Robin Fox, and the 2022 Ladies of Laughter Newcomer Runner-Up Marcela Onyango.
SOPAC will host three Ladies of Laughter comedy nights throughout the 2023-24 Season. Don’t miss the first night of all-female comedy at SOPAC!
Meet the Comedians
Liz Glazer (host)
West Orange resident and SOPAC Creative Community Brain Trust Comedy member, Liz Glazer is an award-winning standup comedian, actor, and writer. In 2021, she won the Ladies of Laughter Professional Comedians competition. Her first album, A Very Particular Experience (2023), which debuted at number one on the iTunes Comedy chart, uses “dangerously sharp joke writing” (Vanyaland Magazine) to offer up advice and solace for those who have experienced loss; the album was released on the one year anniversary of the stillbirth of Glazer and her wife’s daughter Leo Pearl. Additionally, Glazer has won first place in the Boston Comedy Festival and opened for Myq Kaplan and Maria Bamford. She was part of the Seattle International Comedy Competition and will be part of the upcoming HBO Women in Comedy Festival. Drawing from her own life as a lesbian, a rabbi’s wife, and a former lawyer, Glazer uses her self-proclaimed “loud, unsecretive, and bold” style to connect with all those who simple want to FEEL.
Maureen Langan
A finalist in the inaugural Ladies of Laughter Grand Finale at Caesars Atlantic City Casino, Maureen Langan is an award-winning broadcaster turned standup comedian, TEDx Talk speaker and corporate & event host. She has performed on Broadway with Rosie O’Donnell and has shared the stage with Robin Williams, Steven Wright, Joy Behar, and Gladys Knight…just to name a few. Her quick wit and honest rants on life’s absurdities make her a hit at clubs, theaters, private events and festivals across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe and South Africa. As a seasoned broadcaster, Maureen created and hosted Bloomberg Television and Radio’s award-winning entertainment programming, where her most memorable moments were interviewing Joan Rivers and George Carlin. Her astute observations and shoot-from-the-hip interviewing style earned her the title of “Best Female Commentator” by the Newswomen’s Club of New York. Just this month, Maureen received a STANDING OVATION on America’s Got Talent!
Robin Fox
Winner of the 2012 Ladies of Laughter Competition, Fox has been a finalist at several other prestigious comedy contests and festivals, including Philly’s Funniest Comedian contest and Baltimore’s Funniest. She was a runner up at The Laugh Off at Caroline’s in New York Ctiy, and she has been seen at the NJ Comedy Festival and the NY Underground Comedy Festival. Fox often appears on XM and Sirius satellite radio and has been a guest on the Joey Reynolds Show on WOR Coast to Coast. After spending 17 years as a full-time mom, Fox draws on her frustrations with suburban living, marriage, and raising a family throughout her comedy.
Marcela Onyango
The most recent Ladies of Laughter Newcoming runner-up, Onyango was born in Kenya and moved to Texas when she was 12 years old; she now resides in Brooklyn. Her pilot, Trying to Live, was a second rounder in the 2021 Sundance Episodic Lab and a semifinalist in the BlueCat screenplay competition. She has been featured in the Black Women Comedy Festival, Red Clay Comedy Festival, and at the Apollo Comedy Club.
