SOMA AileyDance Kids Residency Finale

The Alvin Ailey’s Arts in Education AileyDance Kids Finale Performance celebrates the 7th and 8th graders from South Orange Middle School and Columbia High School’s Special Dance Company. These young dancers spend the residency learning and growing through the AileyDance Kids program, which emphasizes dance education, cultural awareness, and artistic expression. This performance marks the culmination of their journey, as they showcase choreography inspired by the style of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. 

Through a special partnership between the South Orange-Maplewood School District and SOPAC, students have the opportunity to work alongside Ailey Teaching Artists, allowing them to build their skills and confidence in an inclusive, supportive environment. For this event, students share their warm-up and ensemble pieces, reflecting the lessons and creativity they’ve developed throughout the residency.

More than a showcase of talent, the AileyDance Kids Finale Performance is a celebration of community engagement and the transformative power of dance. SOPAC invites families, friends, and the broader community to witness these young dancers embody Ailey’s vision of a culture that encourages young people to take bold, artistic chances.
