School Time Performances

 

SOPAC Education announces the 2009–2010 School Time Performances, a series of student-oriented performing arts events offered to area schools throughout the year.  These performances utilize the arts as an educational resource for students and teachers. Each performing arts group is selected for its cultural and educational value complementing the New Jersey State learning curriculum. This integrative program, weaves the performing arts into a variety of subject areas, including literature, science, music and dance. Study guides and lesson plans are provided to participating teachers.

Guided tours are also available before or after performances, offering a unique behind-the-scenes experience for the students and teachers.

Don’t Try This At Home II: Newton’s Revenge

Wednesday, October 28 at 10am & 12pm
(Theater) Grades 3–8
In Newton’s Revenge, Professor Pruvitt and Crash use zany experiments and hilarious antics to demonstrate how the laws of physics affect our everyday lives. This interactive live stage show demystifies Newton’s laws of motion with a performance full of humor and hands-on science that everyone is sure to enjoy.

The Nutcracker
New York Theatre Ballet
Wednesday, December 2 at 1pm and Thursday, December 3 at 11am
(Music, Dance) All ages
The New York Theatre Ballet’s The Nutcracker features choreography by Keith Michael set to the original music by Tchaikovsky. At an hour long, the performance is perfectly suited to a younger audience, yet sophisticated enough for the most discerning adult. Special Invite: Parents, students and teachers are invited to return at 5:30pm for a master class with the dancers in the SOPAC Loft.

This presentation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a triple-bill that includes performances by an assortment of favorite puppet characters. These whimsical tales have enchanted several generations and the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s acclaimed stage adaptation teacher, as well as entertains, young learners.

CSI: Live!

(Theater) Grades 2–8
Mad Science presents CSI: Live!*, an exciting, interactive journey through the fascinating world of crime scene investigations. Audience members become part of the action as witnesses, suspects and CSI recruits, working together with the CSI team to uncover hidden details, investigate the evidence and solve the crime.

Charlotte’s Web

TheatreworksUSA’s production of Charlotte’s Web is based on E.B. White’s classic story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. This treasured tale of adventurous, endearing farm animals explores bravery, selfless love and the true meaning of friendship.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey
Wednesday, March 10 at 10am
(Theater) Grades 3–12
When starry-eyed young lovers and zany would-be actors cross paths in a magical forest, the result is one of the world’s most uproarious comedies. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the ideal “first Shakespeare” and a riotous roller-coaster ride of mistaken identities and first love that will delight students and their teachers.

Tickets are $12 per person for groups with fewer than 50 people. Group pricing applies per sale when purchasing tickets in bulk for one or more shows. 
50-99 tickets: $11 per person
100-149 tickets: $10 per person
150-249 tickets: $9 per person
Over 250 tickets: $8 per person
