Discover America's original musical art form at the WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series - a free concert series bringing jazz culture and performance to your neighborhood. These interactive, hour-long concerts give kids opportunities to learn about the distinct qualities of jazz, and why it's a reflection of our community, our nation, and our world! Q&A sessions with the artists, small gifts, and a chance to win a door prize are just some of the reasons to come out and join us!
Akua Dixon will present an educational concert to introduce students to some African-American Composers and to African-American Classical Music. The program will include an introduction to the string family of instruments, demonstrate their sound differences and show how they function in the ensemble. Syncopation, playing with a Swing feel and with a Clave is also demonstrated. The program will emphasize the importance of reading and include a music reading demonstration, using a piece of music that young people would recognize by a current popular music artist or from a recent children's movie or popular tv show.
Tickets are handed out in the lobby on the day of the performance only and on a first-come, first-served basis. The concert is free and open to the general public. Adults must be accompanied by a child. We cannot guarantee seats prior to the program.
