An Evening with Marc Broussard

Sunday, June 27
7:00pm

Singer, Songwriter

"Next time you hear a soul-music fanatic say, 'They don't make 'em like that anymore,' let them hear Keep Coming Back...Broussard gives what amounts to a master class in soul singing." - Performing Songwriter

Son of acclaimed Louisiana Hall of Fame Guitarist and former member of The Boogie Kings Ted Broussard, singer/songwriter Marc Broussard was seemingly destined for a life as a music man. This Louisiana-based bayou soul troubadour has exploded out of the roots music scene and onto the top 40 pop charts. Marc Broussard is a true soul singer with a rock 'n roll flare, and his latest album Keep Coming Back marks his debut release on Atlantic Records. This set of original tunes was recorded in just 11 days at Nashville's historic Ocean Way Studios. Keep Coming Back confirms Broussard's position as an artist with a unique gift of channeling the multiple spirits of classic R&B and soul into contemporary terms, and is the pivotal album of his rocketing career.

The back-to-basics performance will be highlighted by songs from Broussard's earlier material on Momentary Setback, Carencro, and the most recent album Keep Coming Back. In addition, fans will be treated to a preview of new tunes! He is joined by several Louisiana music veterans for this electrifying, vibrating, live performance. With infectious energy, Marc and his "dirty brass band" will undoubtedly bring the house down!

Opening act Julian Velard joins Marc at SOPAC! Native New Yorker, London resident, former Kindergarten Gym teacher and one-time Parisian street sweeper, Julian Velard is a true original! A real-life musical version of Philip Marlowe (more Elliot Gould than Bogart) fusing the effortless cool of Robert Downey Jr. with the self-depreciating humor of Woody Allen, serving up slices of pop perfection with a raised eyebrow! After releasing three recordings independently, Velard was plucked from relative obscurity off of MySpace in 2007, the source of well deserved UK major label attention. Since then, Velard has straddled both sides of the Atlantic, writing songs for himself and others, and playing shows alongside Goldfrapp, Shelby Lynne, Kate Nash, Ben Kweller and others, and is currently working towards the 2010 release of his major label debut.
