featuring Joey DeFrancesco
Jazz
SOPAC presents the David Sanborn Quartet, Featuring Joey DeFrancesco as a highlight of its music series, performing works from Sanborn's varied career. A saxophone play with a distinctive tone, David Sanborn’s music crosses multiple genres outside of jazz. Known for his standout solo on the David Bowie hit “Young Americans,” Sanborn has built a reputation for a matchless tone with roots in jazz, R&B and blues. He has performed with jazz legends such as Hank Crawford and the Butterfield Blues Band, as well as Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton.
Sanborn has recorded over 23 albums, the most recent of which Here and Gone is a tribute to the late Hank Crawford who Sanborn credits as a mentor and inspiration. Throughout his career Sanborn has pushed saxophone performance to new heights and his varied performance reflects that journey. A fixture of the New York jazz scene, Sanborn brings his peerless performance style and grace for an evening of great music at SOPAC that all music lovers will enjoy.
