A Chanticleer Christmas
Special Holiday Concert
Vocals, Classical
“The world’s reigning male chorus”– The New Yorker
This holiday season, SOPAC brings the esteemed all-male vocal ensemble Chanticleer for an exclusive area performance. The Grammy-award winning group is recognized around the world for their exquisite singing and pioneering commissioning work for all-vocal music. Their special holiday concerts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art are sold out every year. This season, avoid the New York rush and come to SOPAC for an intimate concert, featuring classic holiday carols and favorite standards.
Most people know the classic Christmas standards, Silent Night, O Holy Night and others, but Chanticleer performs the original works, many traditional folk carols from various countries. Named for the “clear-singing” rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Chanticleer was founded in 1978 by tenor Louis Botto, who sang in the Ensemble until 1989 and served as Artistic Director until his death in 1997. Their holiday concert blends together tradition, history and modern hits to create a special evening of Christmas spirit sure to delight the entire family.
