Who says you need fancy instruments and lots of schooling to make music? Make your own instruments and enjoy listening, singing and dancing together in Sproutin From the Roots, an energetic and participatory musical adventure through American musical history.
RECYCLED RHYTHMS WORKSHOP:
In this hands-on workshop, we'll make a wooden "harmonica" and a wacky, found-object drum set with percussionist Scott Kessel from the band Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem. Along with cans, bottles, cardboard boxes, pencils, and
rubber bands, we'll recycle rhythms from around the world into beats of our own - and then we'll strike up the whole, recycled band!
Then Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem perform live on the SOPAC stage and take you on a musical journey to the Georgia Sea Islands, through bluegrass country, into the Appalachians, down to the Bahamas, and into a Mississippi blues joint, maybe passing by a swing or zydeco dance hall on the way. We'll be listening, singing, and dancing together - and learning one of American history's greatest lessons: we've all got music in our bones!
Instrument making workshop will begin at 2PM.
